The Charity | Marie Curie
This year, two of our dedicated team members, Simon and Adi, are going above and beyond to support a cause close to their hearts: Marie Curie. This incredible charity provides essential care and support to people with terminal illnesses, helping them make the most of the time they have left.
Marie Curie is a UK-based charity that offers care and support to those living with terminal illnesses. Their work is invaluable, providing not only medical care but also emotional and practical support to patients and their families during one of the most challenging times of their lives. The charity operates nine hospices across the UK, runs a nationwide support line, and offers nursing care to people in their own homes, helping to alleviate the burden on families. For many, Marie Curie nurses are a lifeline, offering comfort and dignity in the final stages of life. It is this noble cause that Simon and Adi from RES Group are championing with their latest fundraising efforts.
The Challenge | Coast to Coast & Yorkshire Three Peaks
Simon and Adi are no strangers to endurance challenges, and this year, they’ve set their sights on something truly extraordinary. Not content with just one grueling feat, they’ve combined two—cycling and hiking—into a single, demanding adventure.
The journey begins on June 3rd, where Simon and Adi will set off from RES HQ in Hessle. Their first challenge is to cycle over 100 miles to the start of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. This isn’t a leisurely ride; it’s a test of endurance, stamina, and mental toughness, with the duo pushing through every mile with determination.
But the challenge doesn’t end there. After a day of cycling, there’s no rest in a plush hotel or spa awaiting them. Instead, they’ll spend the night sleeping on inflatable beds in the back of Simon’s van, with only a few Black Sheep ales to ease their weary muscles. This rugged overnight stay is all part of the experience, embracing the raw and unfiltered challenge they’ve set for themselves.
The next morning, they’ll rise early to tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks—one of the most iconic and challenging walking routes in the UK. The trail covers 24 miles, taking in the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough. This is a hike that tests not only physical endurance but also mental resolve, as the pair will need to dig deep to complete the trek after their long ride the previous day.
As if that wasn’t enough, on June 16th, Simon and Adi will embark on their annual Coast to Coast mountain bike ride. This epic journey takes them from East to West, covering 155 miles from Grange-over-Sands to Scarborough. Along the way, they’ll face over 3,352 meters of climbing, navigating tough terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. This three-day ride is a true test of endurance, with every pedal stroke bringing them closer to their goal of raising funds for Marie Curie.
The Motivation | Making a Difference
Why do Simon and Adi put themselves through such grueling challenges? The answer is simple: to make a difference. Every pound raised through their efforts goes directly to Marie Curie, helping to fund the care and support that so many families rely on during the toughest times of their lives. The work Marie Curie does is invaluable, and Simon and Adi are committed to doing everything they can to support the charity.
They know that every little bit helps, which is why they’re asking for your support. Whether it’s a small donation or a larger contribution, every pound makes a difference and brings them one step closer to their fundraising goal.
